Membership Eligibility As defined in each credit union's charter, membership is limited to individuals who share a common bond of occupation or association, or reside in the same community. Most credit unions do not compete with one another or provide service to non-members or the general public. However, from time to time, some credit unions do vote to accept a select employee group (SEG) into their field of membership, thus explanding services beyond that of the original "charter defined" membership eligibility.
